REIKI

I took my initial Reiki training on September 11, 2001. I will never forget the date! I did my Level 2 training in June of 2003 and finished my Master Level in January 2009.

How Reiki Changed My Life

Jody Brown

(written in 2010)

I have suffered with depression for much of my adult life and, as a consequence, have also been in therapy for just about that long. One of the last therapists I was with recommended Reiki to me. I had no idea what it was or what to expect from it, but I had been married to a chiropractor for a while and was into the whole alternative health movement so I was more than willing to give it a try. Fortunately for me, there was a group in existence at Seven Rays Bookstore (the local New Age bookstore) every Saturday morning from 10AM to noon for a sliding scale donation. So in August of 1999 I received my first Reiki treatment. I can’t say I went every single week, but I was there more often than not. It had a dramatic effect on helping to integrate my mind-body-spirit issues. I can remember one treatment in particular where I was just overcome with such sadness that I couldn’t stop crying for what seemed like forever, although it was probably only 15-20 minutes. It was quite a breakthrough! I felt so cleansed afterward.

After I had been attending the Circle for about two years, several of the practitioners mentioned that I could take the training even if I only wanted to do Reiki on myself. That sounded like an excellent idea to me. So I signed up for one. It happened to be on September 11, 2001. I will certainly never forget the date of my Level One Reiki training! About a year and a half later, I took my Level Two Training.

About the same time, my daughter was taking a Yoga class at the local community college and dragged, I mean encouraged me to come along with her because she just knew it was something I’d enjoy. The Yoga class just further continued the mind-body-spirit integration work that Reiki had started. It was at the Yoga class that I really got involved with Meditation.

Almost eight years later, I feel like such a new person! I rarely have bouts of depression. I maintain a positive outlook on life (for the most part). I took the Master Level Training (hey, slow and steady wins the race!) in January 2009. I’m still working on staying centered, grounded and balanced, but at least I have the tools I need to continue the work. My life has been one of “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” And that’s how Reiki has changed my life!
